Ocean - TRAIN 2 GAIN


Train 2 Gain Ocean is a 3-week paddleboarding course with 2-hour sessions each week, designed for paddlers who are confident with the basics and want to improve in open water. Based on the sea around Christchurch and Mudeford, the sessions focus on ocean confidence, efficient paddling, board control, small chop, wind, launching and landing, and handling changing conditions. You will learn how to paddle further and with more confidence in the sea, with coaching tailored to your level in a small, friendly group. Perfect if you want to move from river paddling into the ocean, prepare for longer paddles or racing, or simply become a stronger and more capable paddler on the sea.

The Schedule -


Once signed up you will be added to a Whats app group - i will share photos/videos and tips every week.

Every week we will try catch some waves if possible.

Week 1 – Technique & Balance

Week 2 – Catching bumps, Turning & Board Control

Week 3 – Speed, Drafting & Race Simulation

Week 1 – Technique & Efficiency

Foundation First.

We focus on:

  • Paddle stroke mechanics

  • Body positioning and posture

  • Catch and exit efficiency

  • Board trim and glide control

  • Balance drills

You’ll leave understanding how to catch a bump while being more balanced.

Week 2 – catching bumps, Turning & Board Control

Control Creates Speed.

This session builds:

  • Footwork

  • Step-back turns stance

  • Pivot turns

  • Turning under pressure

We’ll develop confidence moving around the board so you’re not just standing still — you’re in control.

Week 3 – Speed, Drafting & Race Simulation

Apply It Under Pressure.

We bring everything together with:

  • Acceleration drills

  • Beach starts

  • Drafting and positioning

  • Short race simulations

  • Tactical awareness

The session finishes with a friendly race effort to test progress and celebrate improvement.

Train 2 Gain – Ocean Course

  • Sessions start at Avon Beach

  • Runs wind, rain, or shine unless deemed unsafe

  • Be prepared to fall in!

  • Not for beginners – this is for paddlers looking to improve

  • No refunds

  • If we cancel a session, the next one will be extended

  • 2-hour sessions with a small break in-between - we start on time, no waiting for late arrivals

  • This course is for the beach

  • Weekly session for 3 weeks at 6pm from the sup store
